Manchester Pedestrian Club
Saturday Walking within reach of Manchester
Come and join us! (c) John Procter
Watch this space: Now that restrictions are lifted, MPC walks will restart on Saturday 11th July 2020. Details will be sent to members. Any non-members who wish to join us should contact Hon. Secretary.
The Manchester Pedestrian Club, walking within reach of Manchester, and sometimes beyond, for over 100 years, has organised over 5000 walks so far. Each Saturday, members and guests meet for a walk, usually on the hills, followed by a meal in a nearby venue, usually a pub. Occasionally, weekends away (Festival Weekends) or weekday walks are organised.
Founded as a 'gentlemen's walking club' after the 1903 Manchester to Southport walking race, its ethos soon changed to enjoying walking with "courtesy and compansionship." Now 'gentlemen' may be male or female!
We even enjoy the wet! Group at Dobcross. (c) Geoff Orsler 2017
At the end of the day, participants in all three walks take a meal together in a nearby pub or other venue. One of our historical quirks is that we change into smart casual clothes for the meal.
