Saturday Walking within reach of Manchester
- Courtesy and Companionship

Special for 2026

We plan to repeat some of the 1926 walks - from 100 years ago.

See Walks Table below.
Most MPC-arranged walks are on 1st and 3rd Saturdays of each month.

This year we are delighted to be able to contribute to the Manchester Festival of Walks.

The MPC is the second-oldest walking club in the UK, founded in 1903. For most years since then, it has planned walks each Saturday - more than 5600 walks so far - mainly on the hills around Manchester, followed by refreshment in a nearby venue.

Walks Planned for The Coming Year

Note: Some dates of arranged walks might be provisional. Every week there is a walk at Dunham Park. Some walks are organised with other groups, especially the Peak & Northern Footpath Society and, this year, the Manchester Festival of Walks, as indicated.

Details may be found in Details of Walks for 2026. Click MPC waak number for details of that walk.

A very interesting read not only for Club Members
but also for social historians
and indeed anyone interested in history.

Walking with the MPC

In the past, up to the Pandemic of 2020, walks have been organised for most Saturdays of the year in locations easily reached from Manchester - in the Pennines, Peak District, Cheshire, North Wales, etc. Most weeks there would be two walks:

However, the Pandemic disturbed that, and our walks programme is being reconsidered. Most weeks there is a walk of around 5 miles (8 km) at Dunham. Other walks are individually arranged, usually on first and thrid Saturdays each month.

Notes:

Duhnam Walks. See details on Walks This Year.

Walks with the Peak & Northern Footpaths Society. Main details may be found on Walks This Year. See the PNFS Walks Page for full details.

Manchester Festival of Walks. During May MPC walks are arranged as part of the Manchester Festival of Walks. There are many others. See (TBS).
